Golden Retriever 'Distraught' Over Leaving the Beach Is All of Us This Summer

With the first day of fall just a little over a month away, it's time to fit in all of the summer fun we can into the next few weeks. As excited as I am to welcome in the season of pumpkin spice (and all things Halloween... plus the cooler weather can't hurt), it's going to be bittersweet to say goodbye to summer. If you feel the same way, you most certainly are not alone — and neither is the sweet pup in this TikTok video.

Not only does he totally understand that his final visit to the beach for the summer has come to an end, but he's quite sad about it. He doesn't want to leave, and honestly, I can't blame him.

On Sunday, August 11, @maverickthegolden shared this video of happened when her Golden Retriever got in the car and realized that he wouldn't be back at his beloved beach for another year.

Despite being clearly comfy in the backseat of the car (complete with his emotional support stuffed bumble bee), he was so upset that he didn't even want to look at his mom while she was talking to him. After all, it was her fault that they had to leave so she could get back to work!

"I'm sorry. Mom had a lot of time off this summer and PTO," she said.

It didn't matter to Maverick, though. He continued to ignore her and looked out the window with the most sullen look of a teenager on his face.

Once he was back home, he seemed to have accepted his fate as he ran around his backyard and even chased the cats... but this is definitely a beach dog through and through. Just think of how happy he'll be when he returns to the ocean next year!

    Can Dogs Get Seasonal Depression?

One of the reasons I dread summer coming to an end isn't because I dislike the other seasons — in fact, I'm always looking forward to Halloween and the holiday season. But I'm definitely in a worse mood during the end of fall and all throughout winter, when there's less sunlight during my waking hours. As humans we know this as seasonal depression... but could it be something that Maverick and other dogs suffer from, too?

According to PetMD , dogs don't experience seasonal depression the way we do, but they can experience changes in mood during the winter months. They can also be negatively affected by the increased hours of darkness each day, and if they don't get to play outside and get exercise as much as they do in the colder weather, they may seem downright bummed.

To help prevent this from happening (or at least keep those winter blues to a minimum), you can get them outside as much as possible when the weather allows and find time to play with them indoors as much as you can. You can even plan an indoor playdate for a friend and their dog.

Just remember: spending time in the fresh air and sunshine is good for you both!
