Colony of Feral Cats Coming Out When the 'Dinner Van' Arrives Is a Sight to Behold

Feeding feral cats is something a lot of people agree is a good deed. They might not be able to get food reliably any other way, and even if they're feral, they're still cats. They look like cats, they meow like cats, and they come running at the first sound of food... just like cats.

On Sunday, August 11th, one sweet network of neighborhood cat feeders rolled up their usual spot. They give the feral cats that live around there their daily meal, and they finally decided to share the cats' hilarious reaction with all of us:

The Neighborhood Cats Network (and specifically Rosie, who is in apparently charge of gathering the gang for dinner) does a lot of good for the feral cats they work with. Keep up the good work!

Neighborhood Cats Network is a nonprofit organization based in Rochester, New York. It's one of the coolest organizations around, specializing in a few things:

    1. Providing a community pantry.
    2. Providing at least two meals a day to the neighborhood feral cat colony.
    3. TNVR (trap, neuter , vaccinate, release).

They're fairly new to TikTok, but this video has gone semi-viral, and hopefully, they'll get more recognition for their cause and others might decide to do something similar. Even if you don't see them often, there are feral cats everywhere, and helping them out is a serious way to earn some good karma!

How Can I Help Feral Cats Near Me?

Not everyone has the capacity to start a paw-some nonprofit like this, though we'd all love to. However, that doesn't mean we don't want to try - and it doesn't mean there's absolutely nothing we can do.

If you want to help feral cats in your area, you should:

    1. Reach out to local shelters to see if they need volunteers for field work.
    2. Donate bags of food, dishes, and even bottled water to organizations like NCN so they can focus on helping cats directly.
    3. If you have a feral cat that frequents your yard, you can start building trust by feeding it and giving it a warm place to stay outside.
    4. Coordinate with a local rescue to see if you can get the cat picked up, either for rescue or TNVR services.

Bringing a feral cat into your home and taming them is entirely possible, especially for a young enough kitten. However, in a lot of cases, the best thing for them is legitimately just to trap, neuter, vaccinate, and release them, all the while giving them a nice meal to come collect. They're lovable freeloaders, at least!
