There are tons of dogs who have jobs in the world, whether they're working on farms, at dog shows, for people who need help, or keeping the streets safe from bad guys. They're so special!

On Sunday, August 25th, we got to see one police K-9's reward after a hard shift taking down a bad guy. It's not something we usually get to see, but it's super nice of them to reward her. She totally deserved it:

The Chronicles of Kai the K-9 are never dull - she catches bad guys all day. She's seriously like something straight out of a movie!

Kai has been working for the police for ever since she was a puppy: they start training young. As a Bloodhound, her job is to scent track the bad guys, and if need be, she can grab hold of their arms/legs to give her human partner time to reach them. According to Kai's handler/mom, a tradition when dogs from this precinct catch a bad guy is that they get an In-N-Out cheeseburger all to themselves.

Kai lives at home with her handler/mom, and she's still in training, which makes her accomplishment all the more impressive. Since she's a big girl, one cheeseburger every once in a while won't hurt her at all, though if she starts to get really good at her job, it could become an issue!

    Different Types of Police Dogs

Kai the Bloodhound is just one example of a police dog; there are lots of other common breeds, and sometimes, they serve slightly different purposes. For example:

    1. Cadaver dogs are trained to pick up on human remains. Labrador Retrievers, Basset Hounds, and German Shepherds do well here.
    2. Bloodhounds like Kai, Basset Hounds, and Beagles are all common for following the trail of someone who fled a scene or to sniff out drugs, bombs, or other dangerous materials.
    3. Dogs with high senses of smell, fast running speeds, adn strong jaws are often sent after bad people as they're running away. Belgian Malinois , Dutch Shepherds, and German Shepherds are perfect for this.

Most of the time, you'll find a variety of dogs working with any given police department, and the most prominent type can shift depending on the area and types of crimes that are most common. No matter what, though, police dogs are very good pups, and if it were up to me, every single one of them would get cheeseburgers!
