K9 German Shepherd Thinks Dad Forgot His Starbucks Pup Cup & Reacts Accordingly

Just because a dog has a job does not mean they don't deserve a special treat. If anything, working dogs deserve more treats than anyone; they have jobs! They're working! That's so hard for them!

On Thursday, September 5th, one K9 German Shepherd just finished a hard shift biting bad guys and foiling evil plots when his dad pulled in for a quick pick me up at Starbucks. After not hearing the words "pup cup" come out of his mouth, this good boy had some choice words:

Officer Coats better not make this mistake again! I know he didn't actually make the mistake in the first place, but he got close enough!

Officer Coats and his K9, Rex, frequent the Starbucks on their way to work every day. Rex often starts off the day with a pup cup (as he should!), but sometimes his dad forgets: this is not the first time. Every time, there has been public outcry and a near-immediate return trip to Starbucks to pick one up for him. He deserves it!

As professional as sweet Rex is, he's also still a dog, and he's not clocked in yet, which means he gets to goof off a little. If they were in the middle of a shift, he would've handled it with a little more grace. But all bets are off when it's just him and dad!

Rewarding K9s Keeps Their Work Ethic Up

No one should have to work for free, regardless of if they're human or not. Without K9s, a lot of jobs would be infinitely harder, and society generally a little unsafer, without them. The absolute least we could do is give them a little treat every now and then!

There are a lot of different ways to reward K9s for a job well-done, whether they've just caught a bad guy or just did a particularly good job at being nice that day. All handlers are different, but some common crowd-pleasers are:

    1. After a really good job, giving the K9 a fast-food cheeseburger.
    2. Pup cups, obviously.
    3. A special little pup-cake for a job well-done.
    4. A new toy when they get home.

If you don't acknowledge a K9's (or any dog's) good behavior, they'll feel like they have less to work for and they may even start to disobey. Even if it's just some verbal praise and a quick pet, all dogs need a little love to succeed!
