Flip-flop felons? DNR warns of ‘adorable’ thieves at Tahquamenon Falls State Park

PARADISE, Mich. (WJMN) — Officers with the Department of Natural Resources at Tahquamenon Falls State Park are alerting campers to at least a pair of footwear thieves that have been plaguing an area campground.

“There has been a thief taking flip flops and crocs from the Rivermouth campers,” said a spokesperson for the DNR.

The warning came on Thursday, after officers discovered at least eight pairs of shoes and flip-flops in the woods near Rivermouth Campground. According to the officers, their prime suspects left a very unique calling card.

“All of the shoes shown were found outside a fox den. If you look closely, you can see teeth marks in the flip flops and straps have been chewed off the light pink crocs,” said the spokesperson.

Only evidence of the stolen footwear were shared—which means in all likelihood, the thieves are still out there. In the meantime, the DNR said campers should take an extra precaution or two to make sure they aren’t caught flat-footed by a surprise in the morning:

“Heads up if you are camping this summer at the Rivermouth, you’ll want to keep your shoes inside your camper!”
