AUBURN, Maine — A crowd packed Central Maine Community College in Auburn on Thursday for the sixth annual Governor's Opioid Response Summit. This year's event is themed "Creating a Brighter Future for Individuals, Families, and Communities" and includes members of the public, health care providers, policy experts, state and federal government leaders, affected individuals and families, advocates and law enforcement officials to discuss strategies to help Maine people impacted by the opioid crisis.

The Sanford Housing Authority wants to make the public aware of a scam targeting housing assistance applicants that has been circulating on social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok. The scam purports to expedite applications or reduce waiting list times for those seeking Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV), formerly known as Section 8. The scam ads direct applicants to govassistance(dot)org, which is not a legitimate website.
