– Local youth boxers Caiden Perez and JJ Subia recently earned titles at the 2024 Southern California State Amateur Boxing Championships, which was held in Perris from July 12 to 15. Both boxers train at the Goat Shack Boxing Club in Paso Robles, which opened in January 2023. Subia, who is 21 years old, is also the owner of the club.
Perez won the state champion title for the novice youth division, 17-18 years old, 119 pound weight class; Subia won in the open elite division, 19-40 years old, 125 pound weight loss.
“Through boxing [Perez] has gained confidence and self discipline. Even though boxing is an individual sport, the gym is a team and provides an extremely supportive environment…his goal is to eventually go pro,” Caiden’s mother Heather Perez said.
Perez, who is 17 years old, has boxed for three years at Goat Shack Boxing Club, where he also coaches a children’s boxing class once a week. He trains five days a week and is currently a senior at Independence High School in Paso Robles.

Perez’s next steps include competing in the 2024 National PAL Boxing Championships in October and a national tournament based in Virginia in December.
Subia, a 2021 graduate from Atascadero High School, has won several state and national awards since he started competing three years ago. These include being the 2022 California Golden Gloves State Champion, the Central Valley 132 pound title from the 2022 Madera Throwdown, and placing third in the 2024 Junior Olympic Summer Festival.
Goat Shack Boxing Club is located at 3523 Combine Street in Paso Robles. For more information, call (805) 453 – 7553 or visit their Instagram page.
