Strike Teams standby in Yakima after call for state mobilization
YAKIMA, Wash. — The Yakima County Fire District had help this week from state mobilization efforts, coming directly from the Washington State Fire Marshall’s Office. YCFD 5 posted to their Facebook this week, explaining that Yakima County was approved to receive help from the state. This help would come in place as strike teams pre-positioned themselves in Yakima in case of wildfires.

Ferndale woman charged in overdose death of young daughter pleads guilty
FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The mother of a young girl that died of an overdose in Ferndale last year has pled guilty to manslaughter. 36-year-old Melissa Welch was originally charged with first degree murder, but had it amended after her guilty plea in Whatcom Superior Court on Thursday, July 11.
Pateros and Mansfield School Districts To Implement Four-Day School Week
PATEROS — Starting in September, students in the Pateros School District will enjoy a free day every Friday as the district shifts to a four-day school week for the 2024-25 academic year. This change, approved by the district board of directors, makes Pateros the latest addition to the growing list of schools adopting this schedule, joining Mansfield among the Quad City school districts. The Waterville School District, which collaborates with Mansfield for sports programs, has been on a four-day schedule since 2018.
