(The Center Square) – Washington state plans to spend approximately $150 million of taxpayer dollars generated from the Climate Commitment Act to issue residential energy rebates two months before voters decide whether to repeal the CCA. According to Washington Climate Action’s website, roughly 750,000 households across the state will receive $200 energy rebates from their respective electricity provider in September. Man Convicted of Killing Baby in 2010 Apprehended in Ritzville
RITZVILLE — Jereme Joseph Bassett, who was convicted in 2010 for the murder of a 6-month-old child, has been apprehended following a violation of his court-ordered supervision. Bassett's original conviction stemmed from a tragic incident in which he was found guilty of second-degree murder and assault of a child, leading to a prison sentence handed down by the Spokane County Superior Court.

WWPS will curb cell phone use at middle schools
WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools is teaming up with Yondr to help curb cell phone use at middle schools. Beginning in August, students at Pioneer and Garrison Middle Schools in grades 6-8 will be required to place all electronic devices, including phones, smartwatches, and earbuds, in a district-provided Yondr pouch that is kept sealed during the school day with a magnetized locking device.
Oddity: Wenatchee woman's questionable use of a tennis racket results in arrest
WENATCHEE - A Wenatchee woman's questionable activities involving a tennis racket landed her in hot water with the law late Thursday. At around 8 p.m., Wenatchee Police say the adult woman was damaging cars with a tennis racket on Morris Street. Police say the inconsolable woman tried grabbing at someone's face as well. Police arrived to find that the woman had barricaded herself inside a vacant home in the 900 block of Morris Street. Police were on scene attempting to draw the woman out but she refused to comply with commands.
