PATERSON — Authorities arrested a Paterson man Tuesday afternoon who is charged with attempted murder in the nonfatal double shooting that happened on the afternoon of July 3 in the middle of Paterson's downtown business district .

A “wanted” bulletin issued by Paterson police detectives on Monday identified Daeron Jones, 37, as the suspect in the double shooting. He was arrested Tuesday by the warrant squad.

A 35-year-old Paterson man was hit by gunfire while on the sidewalk at the corner of Main Street and Broadway and a 56-year-old Clifton woman was grazed by a bullet as she drove down the street, authorities said. The crime happened a block-and-a-half away from Paterson police headquarters.

Authorities have not revealed what may have prompted the shooting.

Jones in 2017 was sentenced to 42 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in a shooting that happened that year at an illegal after-hours club on Main Street.
