Woman arrested for public intox at park
PAULLINA—A 31-year-old Waterloo woman was arrested about 9:35 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in Paullina on a charge of public intoxication. The arrest of Amber Nichole Barber stemmed from the Paullina Ambulance being paged to Mill Creek Park for a woman who was described as intoxicated, passing out and hyperventilating, with a possible broken wrist, according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheldon man on scooter arrested for OWI
SHELDON—A 59-year-old Sheldon man was arrested about 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, on an O’Brien County warrant for first-offense operating while under the influence. The arrest of Roy Carl Persson stemmed from a report of him putting vodka into a tea he purchased at a convenience store about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, according to the Sheldon Police Department.

After 38 years as the Iowa Utilities Board, the regulatory oversight agency said Monday it's been renamed the Iowa Utilities Commission. The name change was part of legislation Gov. Kim Reynolds signed into law in May that eliminated, merged and or reduced the membership of dozens of state boards and commissions.
Iowa county not expecting casino plans with moratorium lifted
INDIANOLA, Iowa — A two-year moratorium for new casino licenses in the state expired on Monday. The moratorium was almost extended, but the bill failed to make it out of the Iowa Senate this last session. In the most recent U.S. News & World Report, the University of Iowa fell 45 spots in Best Global Universities Rankings, while Iowa State University's ranking dropped 81 spots. The University of Iowa ranked 180th in last year's list, but fell to 225th in 2024. Iowa State University was ranked 263rd in 2023 and is now ranked 344th.
