In the early hours of Monday morning, at approximately 2:53 a.m., a minor earthquake struck about 2 kilometers northwest of Somonauk, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The weather that rumbled through last night whipped things around a bit and dropped some rain. The Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru reported close to an inch-and-a-half of rain. Two inches of rain was reported north of Dimmick. A listener in Spring Valley texted WLPO that a neighbor's boat had blown across the driveway. Peru Mayor Ken Kolowski was up all night tracking downed power lines in his city, and posting updates to Facebook. Most service has been restored.
