PAX, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A bridge has officially been named in remembrance of fallen West Virginia forester Cody J. Mullens.

The bridge is located at the Turnpike exit to Pax.

Cody J. Mullens, a native of Mt. Hope, led a life marked by dedication and passion.

As a forester and employee of the West Virginia Division of Forestry, Cody was known not only for his professional contributions but also for his personal pursuits.

He was an avid camper, hunter, fisherman, and reader, with a particular fondness for the Transformers.

His enthusiasm for science fiction extended into his role as President of the Glenville Science Fiction Guild, where he shared his love of reading and sci-fi with others.

Del. Elliott Pritt along with Delegates Eric Brooks and Tom Fast were responsible for the resolution responsible for the naming of the bridge.

Del. Pritt says Cody was an upstanding man and citizen.

“On the Turnpike between Beckley and Pax you will now see a bridge named in honor of Cody J. Mullens. Cody was a Division of Forestry employee who died fighting wildfires in the Armstrong Creek area last year. Cody was a good man and left behind a beautiful family,” Pritt said.

“He died fighting to keep the people of Fayette County safe, and he deserves to be remembered. You should know his face and his story when you see that sign. I am proud to have been the sponsor of this resolution in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Remember Cody and his family.”

Cody’s commitment to his work and community was most evident in his final days.

While fighting to protect West Virginia’s forests and residents from wildfires, Cody tragically lost his life.

His bravery and dedication in the face of danger left an important mark on those who knew him and the wider community he served.

In recognition of his sacrifice and to honor his memory, the Legislature’s resolution ensured that the bridge at the Pax Turnpike exit will forever bear his name.
