A student who filmed himself storming into a New York college administrator’s office and tearing down two pro-Israel banners is suing the school – and claiming the official “violently” attacked him. At the Peekskill Board of Education reorganization meeting, two members took their Oath of Office. Christina Washington, a newcomer, and Allen Jenkins, Jr., an incumbent, were sworn in as board members. Michael Simpkins was sworn in as the new Board President, and Allen Jenkins, Jr. accepted the role of Vice President. Peekskill City School District celebrated its 100th year with various centennial events throughout the school year, including alumni visits, reunions, and festivities. Mr. Andrew “Andy” H. Addoms, a graduate of Peekskill Military Academy in 1960, returned to his alma mater just before the end of the monumental year. Accompanied by friends Alyssa and Alan, Andy toured the administration building, reminiscing about his time at the academy and generously donating historical items to the District's collection.

“Hudson Link, and college education, is not just a gift for that student, changing his life. It’s a gift for the people who are going back to their families, back to their communities and back to the world we all live in,” says Sean Pica, executive director of Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison. Hudson Link provides college educations, reentry support and life skills to incarcerated people in six correctional facilities, including two in Westchester County – Sing Sing in Ossining, and Taconic in Bedford Hills. The organization currently works with 11 college partners, including Ivy Leaguers like Columbia University, and several local schools – Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, Vassar in Poughkeepsie, Mount Saint Mary in Newburgh, and St. Thomas Aquinas in Rockland County.
