Harris County sheriff reveals identity of victim fatally stabbed on W. Little York Road
Authorities are investigating a man's death after he was stabbed by a woman on Saturday night, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.The deceased man has been identified as Dominique Richardson (35). https://t.co/LjO2Ve4syT— Ed Gonzalez (@SheriffEd_HCSO) July 21, 2024 HCSO investigators identified the victim as 35-year-old Dominique Richardson.Authorities say that the incident happened at around 10:48 p.m. at an apartment unit on 7740 W. Little York Road.According to deputies, Richardson and a woman got into a confrontation before she stabbed him.Both were taken to hospitals, officials said.Richardson was pronounced dead at the hospital. The woman is in fair condition.While no arrests have been made, the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

New Senior Associate Dean for Degree Programs
James Weston, the Harmon Whittington Professor of Finance, will join the Rice Business leadership team as senior associate dean for degree programs. James joined the Rice Business faculty in 2000 and has taught popular courses on economics and finance in all of the Rice Business MBA programs. James’ academic experience has been recognized often. He has presented his peer-reviewed research on corporate finance and financial institutions at many universities worldwide, and his work has been cited by journalists and in congressional testimony. He is also committed to teaching, having received many awards over the years. James was speaker of the Rice University Faculty Senate during 2014-16.
Mets pick BHS graduate Owen Woodward in MLB draft
Breckenridge High School graduate Owen Woodward was drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, July 17. Woodward, who just wrapped up his senior year at the University of Houston, where he pitched for the Cougars, was picked in the 15th round (no. 443) by the New York Mets. Woodward will be going to the Mets with fellow Houston pitcher Jaxon Jelkin, who was picked on Monday. Also picked in the draft was Houston pitcher, Cade Citelli, who was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Rudder girls volleyball team wins AVCA's academic award for 16th straight year
The Rudder girls volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s team academic award for the 16th straight year. The Lady Rangers had a 3.64 grade-point average. The AVCA’s minimum is 3.3. Rudder, under veteran coach Jacky Pence, has earned the award every year since the school opened. Rudder was among only 48 schools in the state out of 3,250 to earn the award this year.
