Children discover body while playing in MS Coast woods, sheriff says. Here’s what we know

Children playing in a wooded area Friday morning discovered a decomposed body in a shed in Pearlington, Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam said.

Adam said the children were playing in woods near Ninth Street and Fourth Avenue and discovered a “badly decomposed body.”

Authorities have not identified the deceased person or identified whether the person was male or female.

The children called dispatch and authorities recovered the body on Friday and sent it to the crime lab in Biloxi, Adam said.

He said the body was found on a “makeshift bed” inside an old shed that resembled a lean-to.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is waiting on results from the crime lab but does not suspect foul play, Adam said Monday.
