Everyone is welcome at unique Toledo Jeep bar
You know you’re at the right place when you see the rusty 1974 Jeep CJ with a bullet hole in its windshield parked out front. That place is Wheelin’ On The Rocks, a thoroughly Jeep-themed bar located on West Laskey Road between Secor and Douglas roads. And if you see a much newer lifted and modded olive green four-door Wrangler parked in the lot, it probably means that Crissy’s there. Crissy “Skinny Pedal” Antoine owns and runs the bar, and she wants people to know that everyone is welcome, no matter who they are or what they drive. “We’re not a private club or an exclusive place,” she said emphatically.
Barn Owl live cam turned off after a surge of spectators bombarded the bird box
OAK HARBOR, Ohio (WTVG) - Owl mania is taking over Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. The sanctuary for birds and bird watchers on the shoreline of Lake Erie built an international audience this year thanks to a nest of barn owls. They’re the first ones to ever occupy a barn owl box that was installed 40 years ago.
Shorty’s brings all around BBQ quality
There is something to be said about going to an establishment owned by the Mancy family. In the restaurant business since 1921 with their steakhouse, this family really has mastered the art of dining, both fine and casual. Established in 2003, Shorty’s True American Roadhouse is casual with a flair. The wood accents on the walls and the back wall full of smokers just add to the “roadhouse” feel. There is a fireplace in the dining area as well. ★★★★
Popular Mexican food truck plans expansion; feedback on locations sought
Tacos El Junior, a widely popular food truck based at 1107 Broadway St. in South Toledo, will soon become two trucks. Owner Jose Merino, known as “Junior,” announced the second truck on Facebook on Sunday. “Thank you to everyone Tacos El Junior #2 will be opening very soon,” Mr. Merino wrote. “If you have any recommendations on where we should park everyday please let us know. Stay in the south end or go to another side of Toledo?” “The comments have been coming in and so far, many people, 90 percent, think the truck should be in West Toledo,” Mr. Merino said. “I am still looking at the comments and deciding. Also, if people have suggestions concerning new food items they would like to see, they can post that as well. I have three weeks yet before the truck is inspected, so there is time to make a decision.”
