Pilot Rock Fire now 50% contained--evacuations still in place

Pendleton, Ore. -- Updated at 9:00 p.m.: The Pilot Rock Fire is now 19,000 acres and 50% contained.

The Coombs Canyon Fire (Coombs Canyon Rd and Reinhart Rd in Pendleton, OR) and the Pilot Rock Fire (south of Nye Junction, southwest of Pilot Rock, OR) both started on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024. Below is up to date information.

Level 3 (GO NOW!) Evacuations: For the area of South of Coombs Canyon Rd and North of Carney Butte between the County Line on the west and just west of East Birch Creek. An interactive map of this area can be found here:

Evacuation Resources: Shelters have been set up at Pendleton Convention Center, 1601 Westgate in Pendleton and at Grant Union High School, 911 S Canyon Blvd in John Day

Coombs Canyon Fire Acreage: 300

Coombs Canyon Containment: 0%

Pilot Rock Fire Acreage: 19,000

Pilot Rock Fire Containment: 50%

Agencies on the Scene: Umatilla County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Green Team (Incident Management Team)

Resources: Unknown number of personnel at this time, but UCSO deputies are actively notifying people on the water at McKay Reservoir to get off the water to allow access for fire air support to pull water from the reservoir
