Bam Margera is nearly a year sober , which is a major accomplishment after a few tumultuous and traumatic years for him and his family. Despite the fact that he’s been in treatment for his drug and alcohol addictions, he’s still dealing with the fallout from his past behavior.

On Wednesday, June 26, Margera accepted a plea deal , pleading guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct, stemming from a 2023 assault incident against his brother Jess Margera.

Bam was charged with assaulting his brother and making threats to other family members during a visit to his family’s Pennsylvania home in April 2023. At the time, Jess says his brother “banged on and kicked his locked bedroom door, [wrote] a threatening note, urinated in the kitchen sink, screamed at him, and struck him in the head.”

According to Jess, Bam threatened to kill “everyone in the house, including their father and two other people.” Bam then went on the run , disappearing for a time before turning himself in to authorities.

Despite the sentence, Bam sees the situation as a positive, saying it was what needed to happen to get him clean.

“I needed that to realize I would go on drinking benders and I would end up in situations that were really not good,” Bam said in an interview after being sentenced, per ABC 6. “Now that I’ve done this amount of time, I don’t want to go back to that lifestyle.”

Aug. 1 will mark Bam’s one year anniversary of sobriety. Jess, who suffered a ruptured eardrum in the 2023 incident, was at the hearing, and he stated that her still felt that Bam was “a good dude when he’s not messed up.”
