French toast to Buffalo chicken, new Pensacola milkshake shop to offer 200+ flavors

Just when you think you’ve got your go-to milkshake order figured out – a company like Jones’ Shakes comes along and makes you question everything you know about yourself.

The Pennsylvania-based company's brand-new Pensacola location, set to open in the former Wild Honey location on 7515 N. Davis Highway Suite E this July, will be bringing a large majority of their 200-plus original milkshake recipes with them. We’ll be honest - the menu gets a little weird, but in a good way. We’re talking weird like a buffalo chicken milkshake with a whole fried chicken finger and buffalo sauce mixed in.

One thing Jones’ owner Christopher Miller wanted to accomplish in his original Mercer, Pennsylvania, location was creating a milkshake that truly resembled the flavor it was named after. Once he and his brother got on a roll with developing recipes, the result was an “almost pathological number of milkshakes" on the menu. Over 300 sit on Mercer's regular menu today, though the list will be curated for Pensacola.

To create that authentic flavor, that means you're getting real, ground-up caramel corn in the house caramel corn shake, or a real slice of French toast and syrup shoved into your French toast shake. You can probably take a good guess at what goes into the Dill Pickle, Hawaiian Punch, Avocado, Vernors Ginger, Sour Patch Kids and Raspberry Chipotle shakes,

“With adventure comes risk, right?” Miller said of the milkshake menu.

The kitchen is more of a flavor laboratory with 600 to 700 ingredients to pull from, which allow for unique, customized flavors catered to the customer’s cravings. The milkshakes are also offered in "duo" form, with takes two flavor options and serves them side-by-side in the same cup.

A full flavor list from the Pennsylvania store can be found here.

One of Miller’s prized concoctions is the Strawberry Pretzel Salad shake – which is a nod to the Midwest in the purest form. Inspired by the summer potluck classic dessert composed of layered crushed pretzels, cream and fresh strawberries, the milkshake version fuses these ingredients together to create the winning flavor combination of salty and sweet.

The new location will also offer locally made Big Jerk Soda Co., which Miller anticipates will be a perfect pairing for ice cream floats.

However, for those that like to play it safe when it comes to their milkshake order, even Jones' classic flavors should still taste a little better than usual. The Vanilla Drop Kick is a prime example, which comes infused with real vanilla beans.

“We at least try to level up where we can on the basics,” Miller said.

While the original location ventured into burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches, the Pensacola location will keep the focus on the shakes. The Pensacola store will also be open year-round, which is a difference from the Pennsylvania store that is open only seasonally.

“This is really a big opportunity to take to this to the level we always wanted to be,” Miller said.

More updates and information can be found on the Jones Shakes Facebook page.
