    PenAir Credit Union celebrates latest charitable donations through Jeans4Communerosity

    PenAir Credit Union recently celebrated the latest charitable donations made possible through its Jeans for Communerosity program. J4C is an inspiring, employee-led initiative, dedicated to supporting those in need within the communities served by PenAir. Since its inception in 2013, this program has been a beacon of generosity, with PenAir employees contributing more than $450,000 to support local nonprofits.

    Most recently, PenAir’s J4C program presented $6,000 to each of the following nonprofits:

    • The Buckaroo Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with special needs. Through specialized programs and therapeutic activities, the foundation provides essential support and resources to children and adults, enhancing their physical and emotional well-being.
    • Gulf Coast Kid's House is a children’s advocacy dedicated to serving child victims of abuse in Escambia County. With all the necessary professionals and resources for the intervention, investigation, and prosecution of child abuse cases under one child-friendly facility, Gulf Coast Kid's House aims to create a collaborative response that improves outcomes and minimizes trauma for the children and families they serve.

    • Penelope House is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing safety, protection, and support to victims of domestic violence and their children. Penelope House strives to empower individuals affected by domestic violence and promote violence-free living. The organization is committed to fostering a supportive environment where victims can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
    • The Studer Family Children’s Hospital Autism Center offers specialized care for children with autism and related conditions. The center provides therapy, family support, education, and community integration programs, focusing on individualized care plans to help children thrive.

    Joyful Noise! Gospel Competition deadline for video entry approaches

    WSRE PBS has been awarded a Foo Foo Festival grant to present a three-day music event highlighted by the award-winning gospel choir Sing Harlem and a regional gospel competition.

    The Joyful Noise! Gospel Celebration will be Nov. 8 through 10 with a student workshop at Dixon School of Arts & Sciences, the Joyful Noise! Gospel Competition at Pensacola High School, and a champagne brunch featuring Sing Harlem in concert at Lily Hall in Downtown Pensacola.

    Under the direction of Ahmaya Knoelle Higginson, Sing Harlem is an influential force in the New York gospel scene. The musical group, from Mama Foundation for the Arts, performs across America and starred on the 17th season of “America’s Got Talent.”

    Higginson’s mother is Vy Higginsen, the producer, author, playwright and broadcaster who founded Mama Foundation for the Arts with its mission “to make a joyful noise, to uplift the Black musical treasures of gospel, jazz and R&B, and to heal and inspire through the power of collective music-making.”

    The mother-and-daughter team will conduct the educational workshop at Dixon School of Arts & Sciences on Nov. 8, judge the gospel competition on Nov. 9, and appear with Sing Harlem at the gospel brunch on Nov. 10.

    Choirs can enter The Joyful Noise! Gospel Competition by submitting videos that follow contest regulations. The deadline for submitting video entries is Sunday, Sept. 15. Contest rules and video submission requirements can be found at wsre.org/events/joyfulnoise .

    Next Mayor’s Neighborhood Cleanup set for Saturday

    The next Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup will be Saturday, Aug. 31 in the area east of Spanish Trail and north of Summit Boulevard, including Baycliff, Lavallet, Gaberonne, Bohemia, and surrounding neighborhoods. This event allows Pensacola sanitation customers in the cleanup area to leave eligible items at the curb for pickup, free of charge.

    Sanitation customers in the cleanup area must place items curbside by 7 a.m. on the day of the cleanup. Note that items left curbside outside of the cleanup area will not be collected.

    The cleanup includes bulk items only. Yard waste or garbage will not be collected. Keep tires and paint cans separate from all other debris. Do not place piles under low-hanging lines or near poles, fences or mailboxes.

    Through the cleanup program, all city neighborhoods have a cleanup once a year during the months of January through October.

    Escambia County seeks applicants for Escambia Children's Trust

    The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applications from county residents to be nominated for gubernatorial appointment to the Escambia Children’s Trust. To be considered, applicants must submit the completed Escambia Children’s Trust application and questionnaire for gubernatorial appointments with an optional resume by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
