A home in Peoria Heights caught fire early Friday morning after a blaze that began in a trash can due to fireworks spread to it.

According to the Peoria Heights Fire Department, they were alerted to 924 East Wilson Avenue at 12:51 a.m. after they received a report of a trash can on fire. Firefighters received word en route that the blaze had spread to an adjacent home.

As a result, they requested fire crews in Peoria, West Peoria and Dunlap to respond the scene. When they arrived, they saw a single-story home with smoke showing out of the windows.

The crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze, getting the situation under control by 1:16 a.m. Peoria Heights firefighters conducted a search of the building, but no one was found and no one was injured as a result.

An investigation into the fire revealed that it was a firework-related incident. Damage to the home was estimated to be around $10,000.
