Boys basketball super-sectional recap for March 4, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Lathan Sommerville scored 11 of his game-high 32 points in the third quarter as Richwoods beat top-ranked Harvey Thornton 58-52 to capture the class 3A Ottawa super-sectional title on Monday.

The win sends the Knights to the state semifinals on Friday at 11: 15 a.m. in Champaign. Richwoods will face Chicago DePaul College Prep, which won the class 2A title last year.

Ther game was tied at 24 at halftime but Richwoods outscored Thornton 16-7 in the third quarter. The Knights never gave up the lead and avenged and two-point loss to Thornton early in the season.

In class 4A, Jaheem Webber scored 22 points as Normal Community beat Downers Grove North, 53-29, in the Normal super-sectional. The Ironmen held DGN to eight points in the first half and led by 17 at halftime.

The Ironmen will play Palatine in the 2 p.m. state semifinal in Champaign on Friday.

In class 1A, two area schools had their seasons come to an end with losses in super-sectionals. West Central eliminated Illini Bluffs, 46-42, in Jacksonville and Chicago Hope Academy beat Heyworth, 69-54, in Normal.
