UPDATED (10 p.m.) — The Huntsville Havoc claimed game 1 of the best of three series putting the Peoria Rivermen with a do or die mission when the series comes to Peoria on Saturday.

The Havoc scored two in the third period to take the game from the Rivermen who were up 2-1 after two.

The first goal of the period came with just under 9 minutes left in the game. The go-ahead tally came just under 4 minutes.

It’s believed that no team has ever come back from 1-0 deficit in a best-of-three series to claim the league trophy.

Peoria will host the Havoc Saturday night at Carver Arena.

UPDATED (8:55 p.m.) — After more than the second period went by, rookie Tristan Trudel put the Rivermen ahead with a door-step goal in game 1 of the SPHL championship round.

The goal came at 14:34 of the second period when Trudel, who is a product of Peoria Youth Hockey Association, made a quick shot from about five feet out. The goal came after the Rivermen managed to keep the puck in the Huntsville Havoc zone for a while.

Trudel battled behind the net and along the boards to keep puck possession. It then came out in front and he buried it.

Shots in that period were 12-6 in favor of the Rivermen who now have 22-20 edge in shots after two periods.

The best-of-3 series will return to Peoria on Saturday night and if necessary, on Sunday.
