Prep sports recap for May 9, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) –Notre Dame scored five goals in the first 12 minutes of the game to beat visiting Urbana, 9-0, in its regular season finale.

The Irish finish the regular season with a 19-1-1 record and completed an undefeated Big 12 Conference championship with the victory. Notre Dame begins regional play next week as one of the state favorites in class 2A.

Ava Lafollette scored twice in the opening blitz for Notre Dame. Ellen Dahlquist, Parker Miller and Delaney Driscoll added the other goals in those opening moments of the game played on a rainy night in Peoria.

Mid-Illini Conference champ Morton closed its soccer regular season with a 3-0 win over Mahomet-Seymour.

In prep softball, East Peoria blanked Morton 10-0 to give coach Denee Menzione the 300th win of her career.

Normal Community, Heyworth and El Paso-Gridley were among the girls track and field sectional champions. The state championships are next week at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
