PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Senior ZhiYu Kolmer’s goal off a corner kick with 1:56 left in the second overtime lifted Richwoods to a 2-1 win over Morton in a class 2A soccer sectional semifinal at EastSide Centre on Wednesday.

The wins sends the Knights into Saturday’s sectional title match against Notre Dame. The Irish advanced with a 4-0 win over U-High in the other semifinal.

Kolmer angled the ball off the back of her head and into the net for the game winner in the 98th minute of the match. Jackie Contreras assisted on both Richwoods goals on corner kicks with Ella Meritt-Ahanda scoring the Knights’ first goal in the 14 minute of the match.

Morton opened the scoring in the fourth minute on a Dru Mutchler goal from point blank range. She took a pass from Sophie Davila and buried the shot.

Notre Dame got three first-half goals from Ava Lafollette and another from Mya Wardle to beat defending class 1A state champ U-High, which is playing in class 2A this season. Notre Dame and Richwoods will square off for the sectional championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Normal Community, Morton, Washington, Dunlap and East Peoria won regional semifinals in baseball on Wednesday. Delavan and Notre Dame won sectional semifinal games.

Olympia and U-High won softball sectional semifinal games.

And Notre Dame senior goalkeeper Logan Waldbeeser signed to play soccer at Augustana where he will study mechanical engineering.
