PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — It’s an all-star game that was fit to be tied.

Morton’s Lauren Kottabi scored twice as the Mid-Illini and the Big 12 Conference soccer standouts played to a 2-2 draw in the Peoria Girl’s Senior All-Star game at Metamora High School on Tuesday. Kottabi scored a goal in each half.

The Big 12 all-stars, who also were joined by players from IVC and Olympia High Schools, got goals from Richwoods’ Mary Kate Haley and Notre Dame’s Parker Miller. The game was presented by Peoria FC United.

June is busy month for high school sports teams getting summer workouts underway. Peoria High School’s new football coach Aaron Montgomery is in his first week with his new team.

“To be perfectly honest, when I first started coaching it wasn’t because I had interest in becoming a head coach,” said Montgomery, a former Peoria High assistant coach. “But as I progressed in my career, it became an itch and reality, an opportunity that presented itself. Once it did, present itself I grabbed a hold of it and here we are.”

Montgomery was named the Peoria High head coach in January after Tim Thornton resigned to take a coaching job in Florida.

Similarly, Ryan Julius is coaching his new team this week. The new Dunlap boy’s basketball coach is a former girl’s assistant coach at Notre Dame.
