Local sports recap for June 27, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — It’s crowded at the top of the leaderboard at the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championship.

Lucas Carper of Auburn, California stayed atop the leader board of the All Pro Tour stop in central Illinois, although his second round wasn’t nearly as sizzling as his first. Carper, who had 14 birdies in shooting a 58 at Metamora fields in Wednesday’s opening round, carded a 1-under-70 in his second round which was played at WeaverRidge Golf Course in Peoria.

Canadian Maxwel Sear and Cooper Musselman of Louisville joined Carper at the top of the leaderboard at -14 through 36 holes. Sear shot a 7-under-64 and Musselman an 8-under-63 at Metamora Fields Thursday to forge a three-way tie for the lead.

Former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo, playing in this event for the second straight year, shot a 6-over-77 and missed the cut at +14 for the tournament. The third and fourth rounds of the tournament will be played Friday and Saturday at Metamora Fields.

Scotland’s Alison Muirhead leads the Annika Tour’s version of the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championships by a shot over a pair of competitors. Muirhead’s 3-under-69 has her at -9 for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Georgian Jean Reynolds of Georgia and Australian Jennifer Herbst.

Muirhead won last week’s tour stop in Normal, Illinois and seeks consecutive wins on the Annika Tour. The third and fourth rounds of the tournament will be played at Metamora Fields on Friday and Saturday.

In the McDonald’s softball all-star games at Illinois Central College on Thursday, the East beat the West, 8-3, in the large school game. The South beat the North, 11-2, in the small school all-star game.
