    Peoria City Soccer wins first playoff game

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — The Carp have their first ever postseason victory.

    Peoria City got a pair of second half goals and goal keeper Samy Slimi kept visiting Thunder Bay off the scoreboard in a 2-0 win in the opening round of the USL2 playoffs at Shea Stadium on Friday.

    Jose Gomez Ortiz scored off a free kick in the 55th minute and Lucas Persenico added a goal in the 73rd minute to send the Carp to the first playoff win in franchise history.

    Peoria City will host Des Moines on Sunday at 1:30 in the second round of the playoffs. The Menace beat Bavarian United 2-0 to advance.
