Seventh-ranked Solon defeated Vinton-Shellsburg 14-0 in a Class 3A, Substate 4 quarterfinal on Friday in Solon. Vince Steinbrech struck out eight in four shutout innings as Solon improved to 28-11 on the season and advanced to the Substate 4 semifinals where it will host Clear Creek Amana (22-15) on Monday at 7 p.m.

Eastern Iowa Faces Severe Thunderstorm Watch: 2” Hail, Winds Up to 70 MPH Likely
Davenport, IA – Northern and Eastern Iowa are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued by the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center. The watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning, warning of scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, isolated large hail events up to 2 inches in diameter, and the potential for a tornado.

(KMAland) -- The U.S. Office for Civil Rights has issued a ruling ensuring that an Iowa man with disabilities is able to live in his home and receive round-the-clock medical care. Advocates for people with disabilities hope the move sets precedent for other people in Iowa and around the country.
Iowa City bar patron reportedly found with handgun and drugs
Iowa City Police say a downtown bar patron was found with a firearm and drugs in his possession. According to arrest records, officers were inside The Fieldhouse on South Dubuque Street just before 1:15 Sunday morning when they encountered 26-year-old Thomas Clay of South Van Buren Street, who was detained as part of a shooting investigation. A search of his person reportedly turned up a Glock 22 .40 caliber pistol and a small amount of marijuana.
