Manteno Sees Spike in Property Crime: ‘Out-of-Town Suspects’ Blamed
Manteno, IL – Authorities in Manteno have reported a rise in property crime and suspicious activity, attributing the incidents to individuals not from the local area. According to the Village of Manteno and the Manteno Police Department, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the police by calling 9-1-1 for emergencies or 815-933-3324 for non-emergencies. The community is advised to lock doors, secure valuables, and turn on exterior lights at night to deter criminal activity.

Shooting Investigation on the West Side
Officers responded to the 300 block of North Broadway Street, just after 9:30 on Monday morning, for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Officers located numerous spent shell casings in the roadway. Following a preliminary investigation of this shooting, it is believed that two male suspects standing near a vehicle in front of 366 North Broadway Street traded gunfire with a male suspect that was standing near North Broadway Street and Spring Street. The suspects ran from the area following the shooting. Officers were unable to locate any shooting victims, however two uninvolved vehicles were struck by gunfire. Officers located over 20 spent shell casings while conducting an extensive canvas of the area.

On June 21, officers located and arrested Christopher Valentino 37, of Joliet, who was a suspect in a battery that occurred on June 4, in the 13900 block of Wilderness Lakes Drive. It was alleged Valentino stabbed, in the hand, a family member of an individual he was charged with taking care of and fled the scene. He later was charged with felony aggravated battery and transported to Will County Adult Detention Facility for the next court hearing.
Police officer shot while responding to deadly Ford Heights shooting, Cook Co. Sheriff's Dept. says
A Lynwood police officer was shot while responding to a deadly shooting in south suburban Ford Heights.The Cook County Sheriff's Department said they were called to a report of shots fired at about 3 a.m. in the 1400 block of Ambassador Lane.Upon arrival, they found a gunshot victim and began to render aid, police said.The victim was transported to a Franciscan Hospital in Munster where he was pronounced dead, police said.While on scene, officers were fired upon by unknown offenders, grazing the assisting Lynwood police officer. Sherriff's police said they returned fire but the offenders took off.There are no reports of additional injuries.The injured officer has been treated and released from the hospital, according to police.
