County’s juvenile justice reform group needs staff, more resources and a clear game plan: editorial
On the one hand, it’s hugely encouraging that Cuyahoga County Council has set up a juvenile justice reform subcommittee to create specific recommendations for how the county can reform its demonstrably inadequate approach to juvenile justice crime prevention, prosecution and rehabilitation. The deficiencies in the county’s approach were highlighted,...

Climate change is hurting Lake Erie. Ohio is training a workforce to help
Climate change is altering Lake Erie: warmer water temperatures increase the risk of toxic algal blooms. Less ice cover in the winter can lead to more soil erosion. And its water levels are fluctuating at a faster rate. A new program at Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and...
'Superman Summer' in Cleveland includes trip to the Man of Steel's birthplace in Glenville
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Filmmakers recently left Cleveland after shooting necessary scenes for a Superman movie. And for a time, our town became Metropolis, Superman's fictional city. Hollywood has it right, but not all right. Cleveland is wearing the makeup of another city. In the minds of the originators of...

Cleveland Public Health Department plans to relocate clinic to serve more clients, develop existing site as affordable housing
The City of Cleveland is looking at relocating a “lonely” clinic to a shared location and turning the former site at 3232 Lorain into affordable housing. Built in 1971, the 19,000 square-foot Thomas McCafferty building sits on 1.5 acres. Turning the largely unused clinic into affordable housing – housing is a key root cause for health outcomes – and moving Cleveland Public Health (CDPH) direct services in testing and prevention could benefit more communities, officials said.

Governor deserves thanks for extra traffic enforcement east of downtown Cleveland
I am relieved to read that Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers will be targeting Interstate 90 from Cleveland to Euclid (”Troopers upping presence on I-90,” July 17). I travel this route to and from work almost daily and I see so much irresponsible driving. The speeding is bad enough, but the weaving in and out across all four lanes, including cutting across three lanes to exit, is just dangerous. The fact that my father died in a car crash when he was just 48 is ever on my mind whenever I am in a car.

He’s says he’s discouraged, alleging that his landlord – the Cuyahoga County Land Bank – will not supply adequate electrical service for Loiter’s corner of the Mickey’s Building at 12250 Euclid Avenue where the café is located.
