GBI Arrests Sylvania Man in Child Molestation Investigation
The GBI has arrested and charged James Ryan Burkes, age 26, of Sylvania, Georgia, with Child Molestation, Sexual Battery Against a Child Under 16, and Battery. On February 12, 2024, the GBI was requested by the Screven County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations made against Burkes of child molestation.

3-year-old, others dead after crash on Highway 25 in Millen
MILLEN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Four people, including a 3-year-old, have died after a car crash in Millen on Saturday, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Officials say around 12:19 a.m., troopers with the Georgia State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 25 near Gays Hill Church Road in Jenkins County.
GBI Investigating Death in Sylvania
At the request of the Screven County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating the death of Alan Brandon Lane, age 32, of Sylvania, Georgia. The investigation shows that on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at about 12:55 p.m., deputies responded to a home on South Fork Road in Sylvania, Georgia after being dispatched to a shooting call. When deputies arrived, they located Lane who had been shot. Lane was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Preliminary information indicates that a domestic situation involving both verbal and physical fighting occurred inside the home just before the shooting.
