The Perquimans Arts League in Hertford will host a number of art activities, events and exhibits for all ages and art interests in March.

Activities will include Saturday Sessions for Adults, After School Art, a workshop at the Perquimans County Center for Active Living, youth art featured in the main gallery, the start of a new watercolor series, and an African American Quilt Trunk Show at the Perquimans County Library.

Saturday Sessions: Craft classes for adults are offered one a Saturday at month. On Saturday, March 16, attendees will learn how to make a Native American dreamcatcher. The dreamcatcher is a handmade willow hoop on which is woven a net or web. It may also be decorated with sacred items such as certain feathers or bead. Annemarie Pomp is the instructor.

After School Art: PAL offers afterschool art classes for up to six youth, ages 9-12. Once a week, the youth visit the PAL gallery to learn more about craftsmaking and using art for problem-solving, self-expression and critical thinking. In March, students will learn how to create “soft sculptures.” Annemarie Pomp is the instructor.

Youth Art Month: PAL will celebrate the creativity and innovation of young artists by showcasing their artwork during March. Student art from all county schools will be on display and open to the public in the PAL gallery from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Workshop at Center for Active Living: On Tuesday, March 5, the Perquimans Center for Active Living and PAL will collaborate on a workshop to help senior citizens create their own journals.

Watercolor class: Starting March 7 at the Perquimans County Recreation Center, PAL will host a five-week, in-depth watercolor class exploring the style line and watercolor wash. Rebecca Davis will be the instructor.

African American Quilt Trunk Show: PAL will host a workshop on African American quilt making at the Perquimans County Library, Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fiber artists Trudy Riggens, Velvet Sanford and Juanita Baily will lead the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hand-crafted quilts.

According to PAL’s Dorothy Ansell, the arts group’s programs are designed to “embody the essence of artistic expression and community engagement.

”Through its diverse programs, events, and exhibits, the League fosters a deep appreciation for the arts among individuals of all ages and backgrounds,” she said in a press release. “By providing a platform for artistic exploration, skill development, and cultural enrichment, PAL empowers the community and creates an ‘art-rageous’ atmosphere that inspires creativity and lifelong passion for the arts.”
