PWCISD approves 2024-25 calendar Brian Smith Tue, 04/02/2024 - 2:15 pm Perrin-Whitt CISD board members approved their 2024-25 school calendar duringtheirTuesday,March 26 meeting. Dr. Scott McPherson with the District Improvement Committee said the calendar was approved 12-0. The four day school week will continue for the third consecutive year. School will start Tuesday, Aug. 6 and have four days worth of minutes banked for bad weather. The schedule will remain the same as next year with an entire week off for Thanksgiving and three weeks off for Christmas, including the week of the stock show. The district is asking for a waiver for 2,100 minutes dedicated to professional development which will allow the district to have four day weeks throughout the school year. In other news, it’s a busy time of year at Perrin’s schools. During their monthly principal reports, Amy Salazar and Loren Sell both told of what their students have been busy with. Salazar spoke of the Muffins with Me event which drew a large turnout of parents, grandparents and family members. Junior High UIL students also had a field trip to celebrate their success at academic contest. Sell spoke of CDE competitions around the state students will be going on for the next few weeks. The high school One Act Play students placed 2nd at district and the District UIL Academic Meet is Friday, April 5 in Graford. In his report, PWCISD Superintendent Cliff Gilmore said the district received approximately $150,000 in grant monies which will allow the district to have a school resource officer for the next two to three years. State law requires an armed security officer on each school campus. Many smaller districts can’t afford that so they are using the armed personnel already trained and asking for a waiver on the security officer requirement.
