Perth Amboy man charged with murdering his 80-year-old grandmother

PERTH AMBOY – A city man has been charged with killing his 80-year-old grandmother.

Raymond Maldonado was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder and fourth-degree contempt for violating a restraining order, the Middlesex County’s Prosecutor’s Office announced. Maldonado was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a detention hearing.

Around 1:12 p.m. Sunday, police received a 911 call about a women found unresponsive in her home by a relative. Police arrived at the State Street residence, located Awilda Verrette and pronounced her dead, the prosecutor's office said.

An investigation led by Perth Amboy Detective Jeremy Harris and Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Detective Jose Rosario determined Maldonado was the suspect, the prosecutor’s office said.
