Suspect in double fatal Marinette crash appears in court
MARINETTE (WLUK) – The suspect in a double-fatal traffic crash made an initial court appearance Monday. Scott Mathis, 46, faces two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. A $2,500 signature bond was set. He returns to court July 31 for a preliminary hearing an arraignment, court records show.

Friends of missing boater Bill Salnik organize community search
MARINETTE, Wis. (WBAY) - Friends of missing boater Bill Salnik organized a community search in Marinette on Sunday morning. As we first alerted you, Salnik and his two children, five-year-old Charlotte and three-year-old Josh, were reported missing last Saturday when they didn’t return from a sailing trip. Bill’s sailboat was found capsized Monday morning off the coast of Fish Creek. Searchers found Charlotte and Josh’s bodies shortly after with life jackets on.

Gillett school resource officer draws nearer
It’s possible the Gillett School District and a local law enforcement agency could hire a school resource officer in time for the start of the new academic year. The district has been talking for several months with the Gillett Police and Oconto County Sheriff’s departments about the possibility of stationing an officer in the school to foster positive relationships and monitor inappropriate behavior.
