PETERSBURG — Summerfield Schools ’ superintendent search is down to two candidates, and both are from Monroe County.
August Ost will be interviewed by the school board at 8 a.m. July 24. Camryn Klocinski will be interviewed by the board at 9 a.m. July 24. The second round of interviews will take place in the high school media center, 17555 Ida West Road. The public is welcome to attend. The district hopes to have a new superintendent in place in August.

Ost has a master's degree. He's been assistant superintendent of Dundee Community Schools since 2022. Ost also served as middle school principal last school year. Previously, he was an elementary principal in Dundee and a classroom teacher and at-risk director.

Klocinski has a master's degree in educational leadership. She’s been a junior/senior high school principal in Summerfield since 2021. Previously, she was a social studies educator for Summerfield Schools since 2005. She has held various leadership positions in Summerfield.
On Friday, the school board held first interviews for four candidates: Klocinski, Ost, Steven Michael Petty and John Sattler.
"Board members asked the candidates questions regarding vision for the school district, communication style, management and decision-making style, budget and many others. Candidates offered opening and closing statements. There were several staff and community members present who offered feedback on the candidates," said Rodney Green, consultant with Michigan Association of School Boards.

The candidate chosen as superintendent will replace Scott Salow, Summerfield’s superintendent since 2021. Salow was recently hired as the superintendent of Addison Community Schools in Lenawee County.

The board received 13 applications for the superintendent position and on July 15 chose four to interview. According to the job posting, the school board seeks a strong leader who has strong financial skills who can be an effective communicator with staff and the community.
“The board felt the candidate pool was excellent,” Green said.
Petty and Sattler also were interviewed in the first round of interviews.
Petty has an Ed.S. in educational leadership. He’s been a science and social studies teacher for Jefferson Schools since 2021. Previously, he was the Jefferson superintendent from 2018-21.

Sattler has an M.Ed. He has been the superintendent in Carson City-Crystal Area Schools since 2020.
According to the superintendent job posting from Michigan Association of School Boards, Summerfield Schools has 582 students, 32 teachers, three administrators and 42 support staff members.
