Iowa Hereford breeders to honor Tiernan at state fair
The late Eric Tiernan of Stuart is one of three longtime Hereford breeders to be honored by the Iowa Hereford Breeders Association (IHBA) during the Iowa State Fair. In a ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Iowa Hereford Breeders Association (IHBA) will dedicate a custom-created barn quilt given in memory of Tiernan; Dan McFarland, Fredericksburg; and Ray Sorensen, Fontanelle. The event will take place at 3 p.m. on the west side of the Gammon Barn on the Iowa State Fairgrounds, followed by an ice cream social in the Sheri Avis Horner Pavilion just north of the barn museum.

State Auditor Sand To Host Town Halls In Area On Thursday
Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand invites the public to join him for several town hall meetings scheduled for Thursday in four area counties. Sand will host the first town hall of the day in Crawford County in Denison’s Washington Park from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sand will share updates from his office’s efforts to monitor and protect taxpayers’ money and root out waste, fraud, and abuse in state, county, and local governments. He then heads to Carroll’s Southside Park for a town hall from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. before traveling to Sac City Park in Sac City from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Sand finishes the day in Rockwell City at the Calhoun County Courthouse’s gazebo from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend any of these town hall meetings. Bomb threat at Harbor Springs Airport investigated, deemed not credible
EMMET COUNTY — On July 30 around 12:45 p.m., the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the Harbor Springs Airport, Little Traverse Township, for a report of a bomb threat that was received by phone at the Harbor Springs Airport, according to Sheriff Pete Wallin. RELATED: Bomb scare rocks Mackinac Island; officials determine there’s no threat Deputies interviewed the airport attendant who received the call. The attendant stated he received a call from a number that began with the number “52″ and made the threat that bombs were going to be flown to the airport, deputies said. The caller was male and had a Middle Eastern accent and was hard to understand, according to deputies.
