    The top performers from around Emmet and Charlevoix Counties May 17-21

    Here are the top high school sports performances from Friday through Tuesday around Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

    There won’t be a set number of players chosen in each sport in a given period, just including performances which stood out and deserve recognition.

    Check for another installment of top performers later this week.

    TRACK

    Paige Keiser, Harbor Springs: Keiser won the 400 meter dash (1:04.14) to become a state qualifier in regionals, helped the 4x200 relay team to a win (1:52.79) and was second with a qualifying distance of 15-feet, 0.5 inches in the long jump.

    Jane Manthei, Petoskey St. Michael: Manthei qualified for the state championships with a win in the 1,600 (5:18.91), win in the 3,200 (11:46.13) and helped the 4x400 relay team at St. Michael qualify with a win (4:26.35).

    Anthony Atkinson, Harbor Springs: Atkinson was a state qualifier in the 400 meter dash at regionals in a third place 53.04 seconds, a new PR. He was also part of the qualifying 4x100 relay team and 4x400 relay team that qualified.

    Cody Bradley, Petoskey St. Michael: Bradley qualified for the state finals in both the 1,600 (4:39.57) and 3,200 (10:04.39) meter runs, both first place finishes.

    Laith Griffith, Pellston: Griffith qualified for the state finals at the Division 4 hosted regional race in both the 100 (11.41) and 200 (23.70) meter dashes in fifth and third, respectively.

    McKenzie Bowman, Harbor Springs: Bowman was part of a big qualifying day at regionals. She helped the 4x100 relay team to a win (54.29), the 4x200 team to a victory (1:52.79) and helped the 4x800 relay team also qualify in second (10:53.19).

    Charlie Ranney, Harbor Springs: Ranney is heading to the state finals with a PR and third place finish in the 300 hurdles at regionals in 43.32 seconds. He also helped the 4x100 relay team advance (46.81) in a runner-up finish.

    Julie Clarke, Harbor Springs: Clarke is heading to the state finals after a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles in a new PR (54.47), then was also part of the qualifying 4x800 relay team (10:53.19).

    Russell Vandermus, Petoskey St. Michael: Vandermus earned his way into the state finals with a second place 2:04.96 time in the 800 meter run.

    Sofia Summers, Harbor Springs: Summers is making her way to the state finals with a 4-foot, 5-inch jump in the high jump at regionals, good for a runner-up finish.

    Adam Ferguson, Harbor Springs: Ferguson finished runner-up in the 3,200 meter run at regionals, sending him to the state finals in 10:26.34. He also helped the 4x800 relay team advance with a win in 8:39.80.

    BASEBALL

    Brendan Swiss, Petoskey: Swiss cranked a home run and had two RBIs in a 5-4 loss against Gaylord Tuesday. He also singled, drove in two runs and scored a run in an 11-6 win for Petoskey at Gaylord.

    Owen Waha, Charlevoix: Waha pitched three innings and struck out four and went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI in a rain shortened game against Elk Rapids Monday. He also went 1 for 2 with an RBI and run in a 4-2 win that helped Charlevoix earn an outright 12-0 Lake Michigan Conference title.

    Brendan Aenis, East Jordan: Aenis was solid in a pair of games at Turtle Creek Stadium in Traverse City late last week. He went 2 for 4 with a double and run in a 6-3 loss to Kent City, then 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in a 5-1 win over Mancelona.

    Ryan Pearl, Charlevoix: Pearl helped the Rayders earn an outright LMC title Monday by going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in a 4-2 game over Elk Rapids, then also added an RBI in a rain shortened 5-0 game.

    Korbyn Russell, East Jordan: In a pair of 4-0 games against Harbor Springs Monday, Russell pitched 4 1/3 innings and struck out six with one hit allowed, then tripled and drove in a run in the opener, before then going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two steals in the nightcap.

    SOFTBALL

    Delaney Vollmer, Boyne City: Vollmer pitched five innings with eight strikeouts and just three hits allowed, while also going 2 for 4 with three RBIs in an 8-3 win over Hart over the weekend. She also went 3 for 3 with a home run and double in a 13-6 loss to TC St. Francis Tuesday.

    Jaidyn Ecker, Petoskey: Ecker went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs in an 11-6 loss to Gaylord Tuesday. The Northmen also fell in a 16-0 opener to the Blue Devils.

    Lucy Uy, Boyne City: Uy had a home run and scored a run in a 13-6 loss to TC St. Francis on Tuesday.

    TENNIS

    Petoskey head coach Erin Williams: Voted as a Division 3 regional coach of the year from the regions coaches, with Petoskey playing in a regional that included three of the state’s top seven programs. Had No. 1 singles player Katya Peck advance to the state finals.

    SOCCER

    Sadie Corey, Petoskey: Corey picked up her 10th shutout in net for Petoskey soccer with a 0-0 draw against TC Central Tuesday. It helped Petoskey to an outright conference title in the Big North.

    LACROSSE

    Charlie Thomas, Petoskey lacrosse: Thomas notched a season-high nine goals and added three assists in an 18-9 regional win over Lansing Catholic last Friday, advancing the Northmen within their regional bracket.
