    Oloroso

Unlike the boy band surge of the 2000s where every song sounded the same, the tapas scene in Philadelphia is not created equal. And while Barcelona Wine Bar and Amada are the BTS and NSYNC of the city’s Spanish restaurants, Oloroso in Midtown Village is more like the BBMak: totally forgettable, and very likely to disappoint even when you’ve got a great seat to the show.

There are some positive aspects to this spot—a great wine list, an extensive charcuterie menu, an upscale candlelit dining space, and a large outdoor setup. But that’s where the good times end. Few of the dishes pack a punch when it comes to flavor or execution, despite an extensive tapas menu and shareable small plates. If you happen to be in the area, stick to what they’re good at—some good cheese boards and an excellent New York Strip. If they made more dishes like it, they’d have a few hits on their hands.
