Paul George had a simple message after his introductory press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The newly signed Philadelphia 76er took the stage following his four-year, $212 million contract deal, and his brief but poignant comment resonated with fans.

George made a notable entrance, donning his new No. 8 jersey and walking on to the court for the first time.

When asked about his feelings on the new threads, he stated, “Number eight feels great.”

This choice honors the late Kobe Bryant, who wore No. 8 during the first decade of his illustrious career and hailed from Philadelphia.

Reflecting on the significance of wearing the number, George shared his thoughts during a segment on his podcast " Podcast P."

“It’s good to have those moments of just like when you look at that jersey. Yeah, this is who I’m putting it on for, so I wanted that moment of just being able to hold myself accountable,” he mentioned.

The veteran forward joins the Sixers after a 14-season career with the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Over his career, George has averaged more than 20 points, 6 rebounds, and nearly 4 assists per game. He is a nine-time All-Star and has earned six All-NBA Team selections.

As George embarks on this new chapter, he will aim to achieve what neither he nor the 76ers have accomplished since he entered the league, winning an NBA championship.

With his new number and fresh start, George is adding to the excitement for the upcoming season, and fans are eager to see what’s next.
