One of the best centers to ever play in the NFL, Philadelphia Eagles' Jason Kelce announced his retirement this week, ending a stellar 13-year career.

Kelce would play all of his football for the Eagles and was a beacon of consistency as in every season bar one he played every regular season game. Having won a Super Bowl in 2017 and being named a six-time All-Pro and a seven-time Pro Bowler, there wasn't much left for Kelce to do.

As such, he announced his retirement from the game that has brought him so much.

Across the NFL landscape, the Kelce's are known to be some of the most caring and thoughtful people in the league, and a rather special story has emerged from Jason Kelce's retirement press conference that tells you all you need to know about the person.

Jason Kelce had both of his ankles taped for the retirement press conference...odd? Yes. But for a heartwarming reason.

Kelce reportedly let his longtime trainer tape his ankles for his press conference because he missed the Eagles' final game of the season due to undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

Having played for an organization with such a unique fanbase, Kelce found friends in every corner of the league.

You will be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't like the now former center despite him playing for a franchise that has a tendancy to get under people's skin.

Now, Kelce can ride off into the sunset and ponder his next career move. He and his brother, Travis, have the New Heights Podcast, which has grown in popularity over the last 12 months, so that might be one avenue.

Either way, the curtain has come down on a superb NFL career as the Eagles will now have to look for a new center to fill Kelce's shoes.
