It has only been nine games, but Trea Turner is off to sluggish start for the second consecutive season in a Phillies uniform, showing the same concerning signs with bad defense and a high strikeout rate.

"I am a little bit concerned about Trea Turner," Phillies insider Jim Salisbury told the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday when asked what he is most concerned about after the team's 4-5 start.

"With Turner, he obviously turned it around after his assist from Jack Fritz last year. For eight weeks, he was like MVP caliber," Salisbury continued. "What concerns me are the strikeouts and the errors, like it's on both sides of the ball. If you look when he won his batting title, I think he struck out maybe 15-percent of the time. Now, last year he took a big jump and I know it's a ridiculously early sample size—ridiculously early—but he's striking out like 30-percent of the time now."

Turner is just 8-36 (.222) with two doubles, two RBIs, and three stolen bases through the first nine games. He has 12 strikeouts to just three walks in 39 plate appearances and his on-base percentage is .282. He's also committed three errors already.

"He led all National League shortstops last year in errors. He's already got three in the first nine games," said Salisbury. "Jimmy Rollins used to make five or six errors a year!

"Turner is a concern. I still think he's a hell of a player and I don't know if he's still getting adjusted or what, you just would like to see more contact and better defense."
