Daughter of former Eagles legend Randall Cunningham to compete in 2024 Summer Olympics

The 2024 Summer Olympics are almost here and Philadelphia Eagles fans are going to want to tune into the Women's high jump event.

That's because Vashti Cunningham, daughter of former Eagles legend Randall Cunningham, is on tap to compete in the Paris Olympics in the high jump.

This isn't Vashti's first time competing in the Olympics as she has been two other times and is widely known for being the youngest track and field athlete from the U.S. to qualify for the Olympics since 1980.

Vashti, 25, made her Olympic debut in 2016 in Rio where she finished 13th and then returned for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, improving with a sixth-place finish.

She'll look to get closer to the gold this time in a place that she has often traveled to.

“I’m looking forward to my third Olympics ,” Vashti said, via the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I love jumping (in Paris). I’m just happy to be going to a place that is familiar to me. I’ve been to Paris multiple times, love the atmosphere and feel my energy is always great when I’m there."

Vahsti Started Jumping in Fourth Grade

Vahsti's father Randall, aka the former Eagles quarterback, is also her coach and first got her into track and field in the fourth grade.

But it wasn't until Vashti's sophomore year of high school at Bishop Gorman High that he realized she was Olympics-worthy after he watched her jump an impressive 6 feet, 3 inches -- a height that only two other U.S. high schoolers in history reached.

After high school, Vashti turned down several college offers, choosing to go pro instead, and signed with Nike and Red Bull. She went on to win 13 consecutive U.S. indoor and outdoor high jump crowns, a streak that was snapped by Kentucky standout Charity Hufnagel at the U.S. track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon on Monday.

Vashti ultimately finished third to secure the final spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

Fans can Vahsti jump for the gold when the Paris Summer Olympics kick off from July 26 to August 11.
