The countdown to the start of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024 campaign has officially begun.

The Eagles will kick off the 2024 season in unique fashion, taking on the Green Bay Packers in the NFL’s first ever game in Brazil on September 6.

In anticipation of the coming NFL season, we’ll be checking in at semi-regular intervals highlighting the most iconic Eagles players to ever wear a specific number.

With 71 days to go until September 6, today we’re celebrating No. 71.

Who is the most iconic player to wear No. 71?

    Jason Peters, offensive tackle, 2009-2020.

What makes Jason Peters so iconic?

Peters was a pillar of the Eagles’ offensive line for more than a decade, and played alongside Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson on some of the most dominant trenches in franchise history.

While it’s tough for an offensive lineman to earn accolades, Peters got his fair share, making nine Pro Bowls and being named a first-team All-Pro twice and second-team All-Pro four times in his career.

In 2017, Peters suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee, knocking him out for the season. He was unable to play as the Eagles made their run to the Super Bowl, but was still one of the leaders of the team.

In 2020, after playing 12 seasons in Philadelphia, Peters left the team, playing one-year stints with the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks. Now 42 years old, Peters is a free agent heading into the 2024 season.

Whenever Peters does make his retirement official, there is no doubt he will do it as an Eagle.

Which other notable players have worn No. 71?

Defensive lineman Ken Clark wore No. 71 for a decade with the Eagles from 1978-1987, recording 48 sacks over that stretch. Offensive lineman Jermane Mayberry also sported No. 71 for nearly a decade in Philadelphia from 1996-2004.

    Who currently wears No. 71?

Heading into training camp ahead of the 2024 season, no player on the Eagles roster is currently slated to wear No. 71.
