Weekend weather forecasts for the Philadelphia region warn of two rounds of turbulent weather, according to the National Weather Service, and the threat of possible tornadoes.

How bad are the weekend storms?

Forecasts suggest Saturday’s warm temperatures across the region will give way in the late evening to more unsettled weather in two phases over the weekend.

A fast-moving storm is expected to slide through western Pennsylvania around late Saturday evening and move off the coast of the Jersey shore by midnight.

Another round of threatening weather is forecasted to slam the area late Sunday afternoon, with conditions that could support lighting, high winds, localized flash floods and even hail.

That storm system could also carry rotating winds to the region, bringing a chance of tornadoes.

If conditions on Sunday do support potential tornado activity, the National Weather Service could issues watches or warnings.

Here’s what to know about both advisories.

    Tornado watch vs. warning

Tornado watch: This means that weather conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. It does not mean that a tornado has been seen or detected. During a watch, it’s vital to stay alert and be prepared to take shelter quickly if a warning is issued.

Tornado warning: This means that a tornado has been spotted or indicated by weather radar. If a warning is issued, take immediate action to protect yourself. Seek shelter in a sturdy building, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
