In the middle of the night, the biggest chess piece in all of NBA free agency has officially found its landing spot.

After spending five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, Paul George has officially decided to team up with a different NBA superstar. The decision comes after he and Kawhi Leonard both forced their way to Los Angeles, yet despite being two of the best two-way players in the NBA, they didn't have much to show for it.

The two only played 181 games together in five years according to StatMuse , which comes out to an average of 36.2 per season. Despite having title hopes, the two led the Clippers to a Western Conference Finals in 2020-21, but were bounced out of the playoffs in the opening round each of the past two seasons, including this past one which saw them add former MVP James Harden.

Reports had indicated that George was set to meet with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday and Monday but didn't need much time to decide.

According to a report by Shams Charania, the  Senior lead NBA Insider for The Athletic and Stadium, George is headed back to the Eastern Conference where he will team up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Per Charania, George's deal is expected to last four years and worth $212 million.

George will look to give the 76ers that extra boost, as they haven't made it to the NBA finals since 2001. This past season, George averaged 22.6 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting a career-high from deep at 41.3% and also shooting a career-high 47.1% from the field. This past season also marked the first time since the 2018-19 season that he played more than 60 games.

The 76ers are certainly looking to give the defending champion Boston Celtics a run for their money in the East.
