Philadelphia Eagles Again Suggested As Suitor For Former Star Defender

The Philadelphia Eagles already acquired Saquon Barkley this off-season and paid wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith a massive new contract. However, one analyst is not satisfied with those big decisions.

Writing for Sports Illustrated, analyst Patrick McAvoy called for the team to at least consider former Seahawks safety Jamal Adams.

“The 28-year-old still is available in free agency but hasn’t been talked about much lately. It’s unclear where he will end up, but the Philadelphia Eagles at least should consider a signing. … Philadelphia needs some help at safety and has been linked to a handful of players, including Adams. The Eagles have enough cap space available to afford Adams and he could fill one of the team’s biggest needs,” he wrote.

Adams, of course, was one of the blockbuster moves made by the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2020 season. In 2019, Adams posted an 87.9 PFF score with the New York Jets. At the time, analysts viewed Adams as one of the best in the league. The Seahawks handed the Jets two first-round picks in exchange for the safety.

After three seasons of struggling to justify the expense, the team cut ties with Adams this offseason.

According to PFF, the safety’s best season with a notable amount of work in Seattle was graded as 64.2.

The Jets can look at this as one of their biggest wins of the decade. However, while the Seahawks have long since moved on from the draft capital cost associated with Adams, the fallout from his exit is still ongoing.

Jamal Adams serves as great gamble for Philadelphia Eagles

Adams remains on the free agent market at the beginning of July. This is a massive indicator of his market in the NFL.

Of course, at only 28 years old, Adams still has some gas in the tank. The question, however, is how healthy he can remain. Then, on top of that, whether he can play in a new system better than he did with Pete Carroll.

The odds of success seem low, but one can also consider the price. As an available player in early July, Adams likely could be had for pennies on the dollar of his 2020 value.

Plus, as someone still in his 20s, there may be a few good years left in him. Put simply, it appears to be a low-risk, high-reward gamble for Philadelphia.

Will the Eagles roll the dice?
