Ike and Spike: Time for Phillies to go all in on 2024, don't worry about prospects or money

As the Phillies continue to roll, most recently making a statement sweep over the Dodgers, Spike Eskin says it is time for the front office to abandon concerns about the farm system and the franchise’s long-term future, and focus on the here and now.

Because the here and now may be Philly’s best chance at a title for who knows how long.

“This just feels like the opportunity, the year that the Phillies can finish the job and win the World Series,” Spike said. “My message to Dave Dombrowski and John Middleton, go get it. leave no stone unturned. If you need an outfielder, go get an outfielder. If you need a reliever, go out and get a reliever. I don’t care about prospects or money. Everything you can put into this year, the year, go out and do it.”

Whatever holes the Phillies may feel they have on their roster, Ike and Spike agree that they need to be aggressively filled, whether it’s outfield depth in case the offense isn’t enough from Nick Castellanos or Johan Rojas, or adding another bullpen arm to lock down the late innings in October. If it means parting with top prospects or taking on big salary, so be it. The time is now to go all in.

“I don’t want to look back on 2024 and say ‘If we had just traded for this guy or that guy, maybe we would have been in a better position in the eighth inning of game five,’” Spike said. “Leave no stone unturned. Go out there and make it happen.”
